Having My Say

by Young Essex Poets

Gone are the days when children were seen and not heard and judging by the contents of this anthology we are all the better for it.

The content of this anthology is of an extremely high standard and the children who have written the poems should be congratulated for this. The wide range of subjects in this anthology highlights the creative and imaginative ideas children have.

I would also like to point out that there were vast numbers of entries that did not make the final book and this has little reflection on the standard of these poems. As one of the judges who had to narrow down the entries I would like to let it be known that this was an extremely difficult process. All the judges took a long time to make their decisions and along the way there were a number of conflicting opinions. The standard of the poetry made putting all the entries in a logistical problem.

I would like to thank the Headteacher’s from each of the schools for the effort they made in making this possible, without their compliance the competition would never have taken place.

Also another thank you to Barrie Jones who designed the front cover illustration, the theme of which reflects the Russian Space Monkeys being forced on missions without their say and on a lesser level – it is a funny picture!

Finally, I would like to say that the final anthology is a hugely enjoyable read and I hope that you agree with me. Thank you for purchasing this book.

Simon Darby, Manmade Productions.
