This book charts the life and times of a professional footballer in
the 1960s and 1970s.
It follows the highs and lows, triumphs and disasters of a life lived and dedicated
to the pursuit of perfection on the football field.
John Tudor rose through the ranks to play in the highest league in the English First Division.
His journey took him from his home town in Ilkeston to places and cities he
may have never visited
had he not been determined to play at the highest level. Johns footballing
journey took him to
Coventry City, Sheffield United, Stoke City and eventually to Belgium with KAA
Gent.
His greatest success was as a feared striker at Newcastle United between 1971
and 1976 where
his frontline partnership with Malcolm Macdonald proved extremely successful.
The highlight of Johns career was when he played at Wembley for Newcastle
United
in the 1974 Cup Final against Liverpool although his team were defeated that
day.
John won the respect of fellow professionals and fans alike with his honest,
brave
and totally committed displays in every game he played but injuries took their
toll as
his reputation grew and he became a marked man. He played with skill, strength
and
courage and gave his all for his team mates.
This book reveals the real truth of what went on behind the scenes at top football
clubs
and his thoughts on the men at the top in football. This story is a poignant
mix of happiness
and heartache, laced with some very amusing observations of a life lived in
the fast lane
by a player who lived every day to play the beautiful game of football.
